1. Client Profile & Project Background
A prominent Spanish automotive manufacturer specializing in high-safety passenger vehicle platforms initiated a procurement search for advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) to support a localized Body-in-White (BIW) structural run. The project demanded strict adherence to the American automotive standard SAE J2340 210A, a grade engineered specifically for predictable energy absorption and crashworthiness in multi-axis stamping components.
2. Technical Validation and Sample Certification
The client established initial technical contact via our digital sourcing platform, requesting verification of micro-alloy limits and ladle heat homogeneity. Our metallurgy team immediately mobilized to provide verified material boundaries and full trace history.
To mitigate cross-border technical risks, a designated trial lot was dispatched to Spain for strict validation protocols:
Mechanical Validation: Independent tensile testing confirmed the yield strength plateau (Re≥210MPa) and ultimate tensile strength (Rm≥280 MPa) matched the OEM’s internal stamping limit curves perfectly.
Formability Matrix: The sample lot demonstrated uniform elongation and predictable thinning rates under severe deep-drawing press simulations.
Upon successful sample certification, a commercial contract for 200 tons of prime SAE J2340 210A cold-rolled steel coils was formalized, detailing specific planar anisotropy tolerances and a fixed production timeline.
3. Production Quality Control and Transoceanic Logistics
Production was executed under full automotive-grade quality management protocols. Longitudinal gauge uniformity and surface topography (matte finish classification) were monitored continuously across the cold-reduction and continuous annealing lines.
Recognizing the risks of atmospheric corrosion during maritime transit across the Atlantic, the batch underwent specialized marine-grade protection:
Electrostatic Oiling: Application of high-stability rust-preventative oil to block micro-condensation.
VCI Vapor Barrier: Full encapsulation within an airtight Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) membrane.
Heavy Industrial Packaging: Symmetrical outer steel eye-protectors and robust metallic banding to withstand terminal transit handling.
4. Project Outcome
All 200 tons were delivered fully on-schedule, accompanied by authenticated EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) confirming full chemical and mechanical traceability. The successful integration of this material onto the client’s high-RPM automated press lines establishes our capacity to execute high-tier, specification-heavy automotive flat-rolled solutions globally.
