Independently Developed Highly Bendable and Highly Corrosion-Resistant Steel Provides Baowu's Solution for the Automotive Industry
Recently, Baowu Central Research Institute achieved a global first with the independent development of DP1310GA, a high-strength, highly bendable, and highly corrosion-resistant steel, at Zhanjiang Iron and Steel. This product represents a breakthrough in the international market, as it is the first time that a hot-dip galvanized ultra-high-strength steel with a strength level of 1300MPa, high bendability, and high corrosion resistance has been achieved. It also fills the gap for automotive ultra-high-strength steel that combines high strength, high bendability, and high corrosion resistance, providing a Baowu solution for the differentiated needs of the automotive industry's components.In recent years, with the development of the high-end automotive industry, there has been an increasing demand for automotive steel in terms of strength, bendability, and corrosion resistance. This demand is especially stringent for key components such as automotive bumpers, crash beams, battery packs, where safety, formability, and corrosion resistance are critical. Currently, both domestically and internationally, hot-dip galvanized ultra-high-strength steel for automotive use is mainly concentrated in the 780-1180MPa strength range. There is a blank space in achieving a strength level of 1300MPa and above with high bendability and high corrosion resistance, making it unable to meet the growing demand for high-end automotive steel.
To fill this gap for high bendability and high corrosion-resistant hot-dip galvanized ultra-high-strength steel, Baowu Central Research Institute overcame technical challenges in high-performance alloy composition design, consistent process control, super high-strength steel plating, and GA coating alloying processes. They successfully developed DP1310GA, which has complete independent intellectual property rights. This product has surpassed a series of technical barriers, achieving a tensile strength of over 1300MPa, greatly improving the safety, formability, and corrosion resistance of automotive materials. Furthermore, it has filled the product gap both domestically and internationally, providing more diverse material options for automakers and component manufacturers in critical components such as bumpers, crash beams, battery packs, where high corrosion resistance and safety are required. It meets the demands of the automotive industry for lightweight and low-carbon materials.
In the next step, Baowu will continue to build on the success of DP1310GA and further develop higher-strength, high bendability, and high corrosion-resistant hot-dip galvanized ultra-high-strength steel for automotive use. This effort will contribute to providing more low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and high-quality new materials, demonstrating Baowu's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
